Mud & Moonshine is an album led by Del with major contributions by musicians of his pre-pandemic bands Del & The Rad Rompers, Mud in Your Moonshine, and Come Back, Shane!

Renowned band leader of the Ear Regulars and prolific session musician, Jon-Erik Kellso arranged W.C. Handy’s “Harlem Blues” to open this record with power. Josh Holcomb, known for leading popular brass band Lucky Chops, arranged a haunting version of Sir Joseph Barnby’s choral partsong “Sweet & Low.” It is uncommon for modern jazz ensembles to perform pre-ragtime era music, especially unswung. However this piece fits unobtrusive amongst the album’s assortment of trad jazz, folk, ragtime, blues, and western jazz. Dennis Lichtman, pillar of the traditional jazz community, host’s the weekly occurring Mona’s session that is the epicenter of early jazz in New York. Lichtman composed an original piece just for this record, “White Bell Blues.” Mike Davis, world acclaimed cornetist and leader of The New Wonders contributed not only with his horn but with an epic arrangement of Scott Joplin’s “Easy Winners.” Michaela Gomez developed unique guitar arrangements of The Carter Family’s “You’ve been a Friend to Me” and folk song later named “Rum and Coca Cola.” Additionally, contributions of performance by top artists Tamar Korn, Seth Kessel, Arnt Arntzen, Matt Koza, and Rob Adkins made this record special.

This fearless ensemble brings the best of the past into the present to live in this music timelessly. I hope you hold dear these gems.
